Williams made audiences laugh alongside Penny Marshall’s Laverne in the classic sitcom.

The news was confirmed by Williams’ children’s spokesperson, Liza Cranis, in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed. Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege,” the statement reads.

Before her legendary role on “Laverne & Shirley,” Williams shone on the big screen in two classic films. She starred in George Lucas’ seminal 1973 film “American Graffiti” and also left a mark in Francis Ford Coppola’s critically acclaimed 1974 thriller “The Conversation.”
